[00:00:00] Speaker A: WVUA FM, Tuscaloosa. [00:00:09] Speaker B: That was in the water by clap your hands. Say yeah. Hello there, Tuscaloosa. Good cold morning to everyone. Welcome back to the morning show. It's the first show of the year and we're so happy to be bringing you your favorite tunes, your favorite music from all over our catalog. And we're hoping all of you have a good morning. Things were canceled yesterday due to the weather. No surprise there. But we're here again today. It's not much warmer, but there's less ice. So I was able to make it here today just for you, Danielle. That's right. All right. Right now, it's just me on the air. We're waiting on some of our other host and old friends that you remember from last semester on the morning show. But until then, here's love slam by angel dust. Enjoy. [00:01:07] Speaker A: WVUA FM, Tuscaloosa. [00:01:17] Speaker B: That was golden State by certainly. So welcome back to the Wednesday morning show. And I think it's a time we addressed the elephant in the room. And of course, I'm not talking about our beloved mascot, big, although we love talking about him here on the morning show. It's time to talk about the playoffs. I know. Thought we'd all try to forget about it. See, last time on the show, we are coming off victory against the Georgia Bulldogs, ending their 29 game winning streak before it could hit 30. And now we are sitting here with one loss to Michigan in the first round of the playoffs. I know it's sad, but we took the number one team into overtime and it really came down to it. So I'm proud of how our crimson tide did today. And of course, there's at least two other elephants in the room to talk about, the next one being the retirement of beloved coach Nick Saban. Apparently, he's an important guy around campus. I'm just kidding, y'all. Of course, he made University of Alabama what it is today through his undeniable, untoppable legacy. Six championships, well coached, and a whole lot more wins than just that. What a man. What a coach to have pulled off something like that. And the thing is, people have been leaving little treats and flowers around his statue. Let's be real, everyone on campus is treating him like he's dead. I don't know what's up with that. All the people online, they're talking about, great, it was. And the stuff leaving by his statue and how they're talking about him. Yeah, it's sweet. And oh, yeah, it's sad that he's gone but he's still alive. People are bringing in the kind of stuff you do when someone passes away. I'm like, dude, he's still going to have an office in the stadium. He's still going to be like a person on campus. Slow down a little bit. You know what I mean? Call Danielle. What do you think about Saban retiring? Danielle, if any of you would like to call in with your thoughts on Saban retiring or our new head coach straight from Washington off his loss to Michigan, we have that in common. Call us at 205-348-9070 and we will try to get right back to you if you want to weigh in. But beyond just coaching and football. [00:03:49] Speaker C: There'S. [00:03:49] Speaker B: Something more important, like today's. [00:03:59] Speaker C: Weather report. Weather report. Weather report. Weather report. Weather report. Weather report. Weather report. Weather report. Do not distort the weather report. Weather report. Weather report. Weather report. Weather report. Weather report. Weather report. [00:04:17] Speaker B: All right, it's 16 degrees in Tuscaloosa with a low of twelve and a high of 39. Finally getting back above freezing. Expect to see that sun all morning until the afternoon when it'll be partly cloudy. The feels like right now is 15, so not much of a wind chill there today. Be on the lookout for ice on the road but thankfully the wind's not too high. [00:04:43] Speaker C: On weather report. With a report, with a report, with a report, with a report with the report with the report with the report. [00:04:54] Speaker B: Whether the weather is good or bad, we've always got something to make you glad on 90.7, the morning show. Now with today's affirmation home. I will be warm outside and inside. By warming up my soul and my spirit, I will allow myself to experience the warm heat of life outside. I will wear layers to keep it trapped in with a fiery magic keeping me going step after step in the cold, freezing air of tuscaloosa. I'll be warm on outside and on inside. Thank you. Hope you enjoyed today's daily affirmation. Next up, we have white science by John F M. Enjoy. [00:06:06] Speaker A: W v Ua f m Tuscaloosa. [00:06:16] Speaker B: That was barley by water from your eyes. Welcome back to the morning show. This is Andrew speaking and we hope you enjoy the show we've had for you so far. On the last section of the morning show we address some elephants in the room. Now it's time to talk about the elephant near and dear to my hearts. Of course, you already know who it is. It's Big Al himself. Welcome back to the first big Al watch of the semester. All right, here we go. Recently on Friday the twelveth. It was Big Al's birthday, I know, so as to say he's turning 45 years old. That's pretty old for an elephant, but he's still young and near and dear to Maya. Our heart certainly full of energy. But his birthday party was held at Coleman Coliseum during the gymnastics meet against Mizzou, which the crimson tide came out on top. We always love to hear it. But Big Al met with his other mascot friends. He was all around the stadium. I unfortunately didn't get the chance to go. But next time I see him, I do have a present for Big Al. I made him a beautiful big card for a big elephant and printed out at Cvs a few photos of me and, you know, just to celebrate the memories. Left a good message for Big Al in the card for the big Al team. And so next time I see Big Al, I'm hoping to give it to him. He'll celebrate the birthday he's been seen around campus. He was helping welcome people on their first day back, and he was offering free hugs the day after Saban retired, helping to lift spirits everywhere. He's a good mascot for helping people with that. So I think next time we see Big Al, just think about all the great stuff he does for us as our mascot, which I think he's been doing a great job. In other news, Crimson tied basketball. Old blue collar basketball played last night. Everything was shut down except basketball. And our new head coach, Deborah was there making an appearance, still not wearing crimson. In one of the comment sections of the video where they saw him at the stadium, the top comment was like, get this man some crimson. He's still walking around wearing his blue. Thankfully, he doesn't have the Washington logo on it, but it's pushing it. All right, get this man some crimson, get this man some white. Whatever we've got. Give him one of those. Take this man to the soup store. Okay, let's get him a little sweatshirt or something. All right. And speaking of sweatshirts, make sure you're keeping those layers on because it is freezing outside, but just do whatever you need to do to survive the winter. After all, what is winter but the cruelest of summers? [00:09:09] Speaker C: Got? U. [00:09:14] Speaker A: V UAFM, Tuscaloosa. [00:09:23] Speaker B: This is Andrew here on 90.7, the morning show. And, you know, all this cold weather is bringing me back to what I did over winter break. Of course, I went home, celebrated Christmas with my family like so many others on campus. And it was a wonderful time. But for a few days in between, I was in beautiful New York City. Welcome to New York. Welcome to New York. As part of a trip here on campus with the College of Communications and Information Sciences represent, we saw a whole bunch of media agencies, whether it be like television or advertising, but that's not important. The important thing is being in the city, being in lower Manhattan, upper Manhattan, middle Manhattan, up, lower, mid, wherever. It's a beautiful city, especially around Christmas time. One of my favorite things was when we went to the Rockefeller center and we saw that beautiful Christmas tree in the ice rink. Oh, it was just so perfect. And other than that, I was able to go and get a classic New York slice. Now, everyone knows the best way to get a slice of pizza in New York is somewhere small hole in the wall, especially at night. You want to go in there, you want to feel a little scared for your life. You want to feel like the person across the counter might want to hurt you. And then if someone gets in line behind you, you want to be a little scared they're going to get you, too. And that's what happened to me. I went inside, told the guy wanted two pepperoni slices, started putting them right in the oven for me. And someone gets up behind me and I'm like, well, maybe I'm dead, but I wasn't and I'm not. And I'm here telling you the story. But there's more stories to tell. We're bringing back a beloved favorite here on the morning show, and that is, of course, Weezer Wednesday, where we bring you the best Weezer every week on Wednesday. Today, January 17, in Weezer history. In 2013, Weezer performed at the Palaeus Theater in Melbourne, Australia, where they performed Pinkerton in its entirety. A special fact about this performance, it's the only time the song the angel and the one has ever been performed live. Wow. To celebrate this occasion, we are sending you a song from Pinkerton, and that is falling for you by, of course, Weezer from Pinkerton. [00:12:02] Speaker A: WVUA FM, Tuscaloosa. [00:12:12] Speaker B: That was killing Moon by Echo and the Bunny. Welcome back to 90.7, the morning show. This is Andrew. All right, we're going to begin your favorite segment, the weekly Watch. Now, with us being stuck inside yesterday, I'm sure that we all had to watch something to pass the time. Personally, I've been watching the new Percy Jackson series on Disney. Plus, I've read the first few books a long time ago, and I have seen the original two movies. And I've got to say, this new series, it's impressing me so far. The acting's believable, even from such young actors, and I'm enjoying seeing where the story is going. Along with that, I also watched Echo once again on Disney. Plus, a character from the Hawkeye series from must have been one or two years ago now. And of course, a lot of movies now. A particular movie that me and my beautiful girlfriend watched yesterday was Mulan. Now, Mulan is a crazy movie, and we love it so much. The songs. Songs are so good. Make a man out of you. Classic. But the kind of interesting thing is the main love interest guy is kind of falling for him while she's still a guy. And there's nothing wrong with that. But he's, like, betrayed when he finds out that this person that he's, like, crushing on is a woman and they kind of gloss over. It's a very big moment that he's like, oh, they just have to make him upset for character drama. But by doing that, it's like, what's this guy like? We got some lgbt representation from Disney Cartoon, whether they did it on purpose or not. All right. But along with being trapped trying to watch all these different movies, it's also been a time for just reading and doing this personal stuff, getting ready for classes. It reminded me a lot of COVID just being stuck inside where you can do so much stuff for fun that you do it all and you have no choice but to be productive. I started regoing over some of my class syllabi. Syllabuses, something like that, and looking at what stuff was coming up, stuff I wouldn't usually do, but I can only scroll on social media so long. And then after being stuck inside long enough. And when a three day weekend turns into a four day weekend, sometimes you just got to start being productive. [00:15:10] Speaker A: WVUA FM, tuscaloosa. [00:15:20] Speaker B: That was hollow skin by dead tooth. I'm Andrew here on 90.7 the morning show. Today is January 17, which is National Customer Service Day. To all you out there with customer service jobs, I am so sorry. But January 17 is also a whole list of birthdays, and I've narrowed down some household names here. Michelle Obama, influencer Jake Paul, James Earl Jones, of course, the voice of Darth Vader, Jim Carrey, whose comedy goes without saying. And Kid Rock, who's pretty well beloved around here. It's also the late Betty White's birthday, so take a moment to think about her great career and all your favorite movies and tv that she has been in. But moving on from that, it's time for the. [00:16:22] Speaker C: Weather report. Weather report. Weather report. Weather report. Weather report. Weather report. Weather report. Weather report. Do not distort. Weather report. Weather report. Weather report. Weather report. Weather report. Weather report. Weather report. [00:16:40] Speaker B: All right, everyone, it's 20 degrees and sunny in Tuscaloosa with a feels like of 18. It's warmed up a few degrees since last time we checked. Expect to see those partly cloudy conditions at around two, but until then, expect clear size and floodiest sun. Tuscaloosa. Cold isn't too bad when the sun's shining right down on you. Not a lot of wind out right now, 2 miles an hour, seven mile other gusts. Explains why the wind feel isn't so bad. [00:17:06] Speaker C: On the weather report. Weather report. Weather report. With a report. With a report. With a report. With a report. With a report. [00:17:18] Speaker B: All right, next on 90.7 the morning show, we're bringing back your favorite music. Now, a song from the movie oh, brother, where art thou? Which my mom says is a great adaptation of the odyssey. We have keep on the sunny side by the whites. Enjoy. [00:17:41] Speaker A: WVUA FM, Tuscaloosa. [00:17:51] Speaker B: That was rapture by the one and only blondie. Welcome back to 90.7 the morning show. This is Andrew. It's still looking pretty cold outside, so make sure you're wearing plenty of layers, keeping warm on the inside and the outside. Whether that weather is good or bad, we always have something to make you glad on 90.7 the morning show. Today's daily affirmation is, I will be warm on the inside as well as the outside. I'll keep my positive energy up, keep the internal flame flowing, and I will make it through this day in warmth, not in cold. Thank you. And in other good news today, we have good news in history. January 17. On this day, Benjamin Franklin was also born a statesman and an inventor, and James Cook became the first to cross the antarctic circle, truly pioneers of their times. Good news from the past helping us bring good news into the future. On Wednesday here on the morning show, we have a beloved tradition, and that is, of course, Weezer Wednesday. That's right. Today on Weezer Wednesday, we've already played for you, Pinkerton, as well as the classic buddy Holly. So up next, we have island, the sun by Weezer. We hope you all enjoy. On 90.7 the morning show. [00:19:53] Speaker C: You. [00:19:54] Speaker A: W v UA Fm, Tuscaloosa. [00:19:59] Speaker C: You. [00:20:04] Speaker B: That was paper rings by. Do I even need to say who it's by? It's, of course, the one and only Taylor Swift. That one goes out to all my swifties out there. Thank you, everyone, for tuning in to 90.7, the morning show. I've been Andrew and it's always so nice to be able to bring you music, news and stories every Wednesday. I look forward to seeing you guys again next week. Thank you once again for tuning in. And for those of you tuning in on tune in, thank you once again. I've been Andrew here on 90.7, the capstone, the voice of the University of Alabama. Everyone, enjoy the rest of your day. [00:20:53] Speaker A: W v UA f m Tuscaloosa.
