Well, whether the weather is good or bad, we've always got something to make you glad on 90.7 the capstone. Christian, today with our positive affirmation, you. [00:01:24] Speaker F: Know, with it being near, very near dead week, our affirmation is on focus and concentration. Today I'm going to stay locked in and focused on the tasks that I need to complete on the work that I need to do, and I therefore, am going to be successful in doing that work on this beautiful Wednesday. So, dear listeners, God speed on any work you have and roll tide. [00:01:59] Speaker B: Thank you, Christian. Roll tide. Well, that concludes the weather and affirmation for the day. But I'm wondering something. I think it's what you wrote in it. Well, I've been walking around a lot. I've been traveling a lot. I still haven't seen the gosh darned gophers. [00:02:18] Speaker F: No gopher watch. [00:02:20] Speaker D: Don't get me started on gopher. I started gopher watch. I built this segment from the ground up when I saw that gopher right by the Fresh Food Food company. And where has he been? He's got to be somewhere. He didn't just up and die, I don't think, but I don't know. And I'm tempted to find this picture of the gopher again. I'm going to DOX him out of, like no, out of complete disrespect. All right, you can find the gopher at 33.2,131,359 negative 87.5,425,427. All right, find him. [00:02:56] Speaker B: Find him. [00:02:57] Speaker D: Bring him to us. [00:02:58] Speaker F: Indeed. [00:02:58] Speaker D: And you get to name Christian's dog. [00:03:02] Speaker F: Yeah, if you give us the gopher, you get to name the dog. Or if you're Danielle and you call. [00:03:06] Speaker D: In or bring in 30 to 50 feral. [00:03:09] Speaker F: Also name the gopher. Or name a feral hog, even if you'd like. [00:03:13] Speaker D: Name one of the feral hog. The Bryce lawn. Feral hogs. There's 30 to 50 of them out there, at least. [00:03:17] Speaker F: Yeah, approximately. Call in get suggest a name for one of the feral hogs. Come on down. Or my dog, either one. [00:03:26] Speaker B: Dogs and hogs here on let's call in hogs. [00:03:28] Speaker F: We got them all. [00:03:29] Speaker B: Two oh five through 489070. Give us a call. We'll play some more music for you and be back in just a second. [00:03:39] Speaker C: Yada. [00:03:44] Speaker A: WVUA FM. Tuscaloosa. [00:03:56] Speaker F: On 90.7. The capstone. WVO FM. This is the morning show, baby. And, you know, here we like to celebrate the day and what makes the day special. And today, November 29, is National Chocolates Day. Today, enjoy a little chocolate. Enjoy a nice piece of chocolate. Or maybe a little truffle or something. Whatever you got, whatever little treat makes you happy. [00:04:26] Speaker D: A little hershey. Godiva dove. [00:04:29] Speaker F: Doesn't matter. [00:04:30] Speaker D: A Willy wonka scrum did leumptious bar. Yeah, anything. [00:04:35] Speaker F: Treat yourself. Eminem's. Eminem's wick. [00:04:38] Speaker D: Some snickers Milky Way mowers Just treat five. [00:04:49] Speaker F: Yeah, we're just naming them off here. Any other days on the National Chocolate. [00:04:54] Speaker D: It's actually also Protect Your Packages package protect Pirates might be more real than, like, parts of the Caribbean. [00:05:02] Speaker F: It's also Rockefeller Center Christmas tree lighting. But other than that, it's an even more important holiday. Y'all know what holiday it is? Richard, do you know what holiday it is? [00:05:13] Speaker B: Oh, I think I know what holiday it yes, that's right. On this fine Weezer Wednesday, we'd like to celebrate the day even further. Go back to a day in Weezer history. [00:05:29] Speaker F: Weezerie, yes. [00:05:31] Speaker B: On this day, in 19 91 60, wrong Sausages performs their only show at the Phoenix Theory in Theater Man Theater in Petaluma, California. [00:05:43] Speaker F: Oh, no. Say it ain't so rich. [00:05:46] Speaker B: Hang on. Do you even know who 60 Wrong Sausages is? [00:05:50] Speaker F: It was a precursor to Weezer. [00:05:52] Speaker B: That's right. [00:05:53] Speaker F: It was founded by Rivers Cuomo I know, thanks to the fine folks at Weezerpedia. [00:05:59] Speaker B: And do you want to know how it got its name? Originally, they wanted to be called the Wrong Sausage, but one of the band members said, it can't just be one sausage. It has to be something like 60 sausages, and that's too many sausages. Far too many sausages, and they're all wrong. [00:06:17] Speaker D: It sounds like an IHOP menu. [00:06:19] Speaker B: Yeah. And it contained the band members, rivers Cuomo, Patrick Wilson, Jason Cropper, and Pat Finn. Jason Cropper, as a matter of fact, was part of Weezer for the first year or so, but then he got kicked off for Brian Bell, of course, which is massive upgrade, in my opinion. [00:06:38] Speaker F: Flip top and all. Isn't a bad know with him, but he's no Brian Bell. [00:06:44] Speaker B: I didn't know that. You are deep in your Weezer lore, my friend. That's impressive. [00:06:49] Speaker D: Now that I'm contractually obligated to be a Weezer fan, I can say anyone that's a part of Weezer, they stand out in my book. [00:06:56] Speaker B: That's true. I would give anything to be a. [00:06:59] Speaker D: Weezer, even if it is a Weezer movie. I would love to be kicked out of Weezer personally. [00:07:04] Speaker F: Me, too. [00:07:04] Speaker B: Me, too. Honor, privilege. I mean, in the moment, I'd be like, oh, saying ain't so. But maybe that's a good enriched even. [00:07:14] Speaker F: Though I already made that punt earlier this segment. [00:07:25] Speaker A: WVUA FM tuscaloosa. [00:07:30] Speaker C: Um. [00:07:35] Speaker B: Meet puppets with backwater on 9.7, the Capstone. Lots of good music on here today, and a lot of good music that we've all been listening to all year. That's right, Spotify raps have just dropped, so make sure you go check them out. Maybe we'll fill you in on some of ours. Christian, what's on the top of yours right now? [00:07:53] Speaker F: Let's see some of my top songs. We have escape. [00:07:55] Speaker E: Aka. [00:07:56] Speaker F: The song by Rupert Holmes. Like Pina Coladas, no one asks. Disco Inferno by The Tramps. We got man eater by Holland. Oates. White Wedding Part One by Billy Idol I'm Just Ken from the Barbie Movie Vule Voo by Abba Lion Eyes by The Eagles We got you'll be Back by Jonathan Groff. Being Alive is written by Stephen Sondheim. You're the one that I want. From Greece in The City by The Eagles moments In The Woods by Sarah Borellis from into the Woods Lovely Day by Bill Withers. Take it easy when the party's over oh, what a beautiful know methamphetamine by Old Crow medicine show. We got call Elijah by Hank Williams. We got some good stuff. [00:08:41] Speaker B: That's very cool. [00:08:43] Speaker F: Christian, interesting combo. Lot of theater and then some random old country mix. [00:08:50] Speaker B: Well, we all know you're quite the. [00:08:52] Speaker F: Theater guy, and for some reason, in the middle of here, we have Like Firework by Katy Perry and Heat Waves by Glass Animals. [00:09:01] Speaker B: Well, what are you looking at, Andrew? [00:09:02] Speaker D: What do you see? I'm kind of popping through the last bits of my Spotify rap tier and well, most of it, as always, is those classic Broadway show. They're all a bunch of theater kids in here. [00:09:16] Speaker F: Yeah. For some reason, I use Spotify to listen to a lot of Broadway music, but I use YouTube a lot more to listen to other music. So I feel like it's slightly skewed. [00:09:24] Speaker D: Yeah, so I saw my top musicals in there. We had the I think my top musical was Joseph in The Amazing Technicolor Dreamcoat two Years in a know really been a big fan of that one. And The Music Man, the classic movie soundtrack from 70 years ago right here in River City. [00:09:43] Speaker B: Oh, yeah, there's a little bit of trouble. Okay. [00:09:48] Speaker D: We don't have the rights to the song. We can't sing it. [00:09:50] Speaker B: Yeah, well, I was looking through it. My top artist and I think you're right, I think this is skewed. I have Grateful Dead on here for 3222 minutes, which far and away clears my number, Two Fish, for 867 minutes. But I still feel like that's kind of skewed because I listen to so much, like, Grateful Dead on YouTube and like, Bootlegs That Man. I don't want to know how big that number actually is. That's kind of scary. So that's my top artists, top songs. Well, it's a lot of jam bands, rock, psychedelic type music, but we got The Man and Me by Bob Dylan. I was a big fan of that one this year. Could you be loved by Bob Marley? [00:10:32] Speaker F: OOH, that's a good one. [00:10:33] Speaker B: Kanye west homecoming. And for some reason, eastbound and down by Jerry Reed and then a bunch of, like, Grateful Dead and Jerry Garcia songs and sulk by radiohead. I accidentally had that one on loop when I was falling asleep. So that's on there 57 times. But I did not actually listen to that 57 times. [00:10:52] Speaker D: Let's see. Well, my top songs here, first of all, the number five, Shaboom by the Chords, famously used in cars when all the neon lights turn on. The number four. Another believer by Rufus Wainwright, famously used written for Meet the Robinsons. [00:11:09] Speaker F: Indeed, love. [00:11:10] Speaker D: Number three. You got trouble from the music, man. Number two a step forward in a terror from Neon Genesis Evangelion. [00:11:16] Speaker B: Oh, my God. [00:11:17] Speaker D: And at number one, both of you dance like you want to Win from Neon Genesis Evangelion, played 118 times. [00:11:23] Speaker B: 118. [00:11:23] Speaker D: Yeah, they actually didn't release that album until, like, March, and then by the end of the summer, I kind of fell off it. So that's like about six months of me just listening just listening to Neon Genesis Evangelion. Genesis Evangelion on Netflix now. [00:11:38] Speaker B: It's a good I watched it. It's a good show. [00:11:42] Speaker D: Did you watch the movie? [00:11:43] Speaker B: I'm going to watch the movie in like, a week. Don't tell me what happens. [00:11:47] Speaker D: I don't want to tell what happens. I kind of want to watch it with you, though. [00:11:49] Speaker B: I mean, if you want to do that, I'll be watching it with my. [00:11:52] Speaker D: Other morning show, end of Evangelion commentary. Question mark. [00:11:57] Speaker B: I mean, we've all just added ourselves as massive nerds on air, but I think that that's too far gone at this point. [00:12:05] Speaker F: I'm just music, if you want to. [00:12:08] Speaker D: Tell us how big of nerds we are, please call us at. [00:12:14] Speaker F: You can call us a nerd, Danielle. [00:12:17] Speaker D: You please call us Danielle. [00:12:19] Speaker B: We got thick skin. We can take it. Well, that's the music for this year on the Morning Show. A lot of different tastes, a lot of niche stuff, I think. But I'm interested to hear what all my friends and all the perhaps maybe some of the listeners have been listening to this year. But that's all we've got for this segment. But we'll have what I was going to say. [00:12:45] Speaker F: Richard, do you know what time of the year it is in terms of listening? It's Christmas music listening time. [00:12:52] Speaker B: Well, that's true, Richard. Maybe we should put on a little Christmas song for all the listeners. [00:12:57] Speaker D: We should. [00:12:59] Speaker F: Yeah. [00:13:00] Speaker E: Okay. [00:13:00] Speaker B: What's everyone's favorite? [00:13:01] Speaker F: You know, I really enjoy I don't know if it's my favorite, but I really enjoy Carol of the Bells. That's a good one. [00:13:07] Speaker B: Nice instrumental. All right, just for our dear listeners, we'll put on a Christmas song, Carol of the Bells, coming up in just 1 second. [00:13:20] Speaker C: Um. [00:13:23] Speaker A: W v UA FM tuscaloosaises with. [00:13:34] Speaker B: Persona on 90.7 the capstone. It's the morning show. [00:13:41] Speaker F: You know, Richard, I think it's time for the weather. [00:13:45] Speaker E: Weather report. Weather report. Weather report. Weather report. Weather report. Weather report. Weather report. Weather Report. You have to store the weather report. Weather Report. Weather Report. Weather Report. Weather Report. Weather Report. Weather Report. [00:14:03] Speaker B: Chris Shell, give me the weather. [00:14:05] Speaker F: It's currently 40 degrees on Sunny. We have a high of 57, a low of 29. Partly cloudy conditions expected from three to four, with mostly cloudy conditions expected at four. 0% chance of rain. The air quality index is 19, which is good. The sun should set at 04:42 p.m.. Also, there's been we have a humidity of 62% with a dew point, and it feels like 38 degrees here on the Weather report. [00:14:31] Speaker E: Weather Report. Weather Report. Weather Report. Weather Report. Weather Report. Weather Report. Weather Report. [00:14:40] Speaker B: Well, whether the weather is good or bad, we've always got something to make you glad on 90.7 the Capstone. Andrew here today with our positive news story. [00:14:49] Speaker D: All right, well, sometimes what looks like might be a really sad moment is just the opportunity for a real happy one. Now, around Thanksgiving, poor family, a little family hanging out outside near the pool. Little toddler falls in, all right, real dangerous stuff, and they almost drown. But one of the teens, a family member, knows what to do, jumps in, rescues the drawn toddler, saves their life, all while the adults watch stun. But one person level hendon knew what to do. But if that's not happy enough for you, we've also got this. Now, the eastern black rhino, very endangered animal. It's hard for the species, does not reproduce real quickly. [00:15:35] Speaker B: Right. So there's a big threat of poachers. Correct? [00:15:37] Speaker D: Yes, they get killed faster than they have children, but they've recently managed some runners to have more kids. They're kind of getting the birth rate kind of back up. And so we're seeing an endangered species working, taking its steps towards recovery. [00:15:54] Speaker B: That's great. That's great. [00:15:56] Speaker F: Phenomenal stuff. [00:15:58] Speaker B: Well, we've got a lot of good positive stories here today on 90.7 the Capstone. Any other news stories we have from the Crimson White where we get all our news and views? [00:16:07] Speaker F: All our news and views, of course, news and views. As a matter of fact, we do. The exciting good news involving sports. [00:16:19] Speaker B: Sports. [00:16:20] Speaker F: Alabama. [00:16:21] Speaker D: We're always a big fan of sports. [00:16:22] Speaker B: Here at the University of Alabama. Roll tide. [00:16:27] Speaker F: Well, good news. Alabama volleyball avoids winless SEC season with a senior day victory against Texas A M in four sets in the final game of the season Saturday. [00:16:37] Speaker B: Good Lord. [00:16:38] Speaker F: It was our first win since our home game against Grambling State on September 16. [00:16:42] Speaker D: Well, I'm really proud of the team, but is it really a win if it's against A and M? [00:16:47] Speaker B: I mean, poverty school right there. [00:16:49] Speaker F: Poverty franchise. [00:16:50] Speaker D: I mean, they're in what, debt to old Jimbo? [00:16:54] Speaker B: Yeah. [00:16:56] Speaker F: This is another fun news story. [00:16:58] Speaker D: I can't knock volleyball because it's a volleyball game where Big Al signed my Big Al Funko Pop, so I'll always have a special place. [00:17:04] Speaker B: Yeah, that's a shame. I thought the volleyball team was doing pretty good last year. [00:17:07] Speaker D: Well, it's just the SEC had a rough season. I hope they don't have to go up against, like, Minnesota or anything, the good volleyball schools. [00:17:15] Speaker B: Well, you got another story for us, Christian? [00:17:18] Speaker F: Oh, yeah, this is pretty cool. It's about Professor Pete Ludavis, a chemical and biological engineering professor in recent to our faculty by Kenyan Fowler discussing how comedy has inspired his research into engineering. And he talked about how humor and new ideas have the same structure. Pete Ludavis said they both involve taking two things that have nothing to do with each other and putting them together and saying that, well, maybe on some level they. [00:17:47] Speaker B: Insight. [00:17:49] Speaker F: That's really cool. And he said, Why don't you trust the fart when you're old? Because the fart should be in the gaseous phase, but if it's liquid or solid or some mixture, that's a bad thing. A little engineering humor from Pete Ludavis. So shout out to Professor Pete Ludavis. [00:18:04] Speaker B: That seems like an interesting story. Make sure you check out your Crimson White website in the coming days. A lot of good stuff on there. Well, we'll be back to you in just a second. We're about to play some more music for you, but we should have Big Owl Watch coming up, right? Yes, we do. Yes, we do. All right, we'll be back in just a minute. [00:18:34] Speaker A: WVUA FM tuscaloosa. [00:18:45] Speaker B: I dress with Dream dealer on 90.7 the Capstone. It's the morning show. [00:18:49] Speaker D: Truly one of the songs of all time. [00:18:51] Speaker B: Well, we're here to talk about a little bit of Big Al. Big Al, watch. [00:18:59] Speaker D: Your favorite segment, of course. [00:19:01] Speaker B: Has anybody seen Big Al recently? [00:19:03] Speaker D: Not as much as I normally do. Now, he's my bestie for the resties, so I need to make sure he's okay. Yeah, here he's at the basketball game. Is that right? [00:19:11] Speaker F: Yeah. I didn't get to take a picture with him or anything, but I was in the same jumbotron frame as Big Al. [00:19:19] Speaker C: Wow. [00:19:20] Speaker B: You were, like, right by him. [00:19:21] Speaker F: Yeah, because I was in the third. [00:19:22] Speaker D: Row of the did he get up into any antics? [00:19:25] Speaker F: He did. He was doing a little dancy dance. Okay. So I'm taking some pictures with some people. He was boogieing down too. I think he was doing a little swag surfing as well at some point. [00:19:34] Speaker D: Wow. Classic big Al fashion. He showed up and showed out. [00:19:38] Speaker B: He did very nice. Yeah. [00:19:39] Speaker D: Well, has he been nice? [00:19:42] Speaker B: Has he been at any events recently? [00:19:44] Speaker D: Well, I haven't seen him in person, but I've seen him at the Chattanooga football game. Even for the smallest games, he's there. [00:19:55] Speaker F: He's there. [00:19:58] Speaker D: You see Big Al at a big SEC, Tennessee LCU game. You see him at the Chattanooga game. It's the same big al showing up. He always gives his 100%, 110 no matter who the opponent is. [00:20:08] Speaker B: That's good. Were you at the Chattanooga game or. [00:20:11] Speaker D: I was at the Chattanooga game sitting front row, honors block lane. [00:20:14] Speaker F: Oh, yeah. No, I was in block. I will say I didn't get a picture with Big Al, but in another watch, nacho, Alabama watch. I did take a picture with Nacho. [00:20:24] Speaker D: Wow. [00:20:25] Speaker B: My friend was at the Auburn game. He was standing next to Nacho the whole entire time. [00:20:30] Speaker F: That's amazing. [00:20:31] Speaker D: I actually have a Nacho story if we can take a little tangent from Big album. [00:20:36] Speaker B: Yeah, sure. [00:20:36] Speaker D: So when I was camping out the quad Friday night for college game day before the LSU game, nacho was there on the quad. So he's fully decked out. So you know how Nacho's always on like as soon as it's game day, it's Nacho and he's Nacho, right? Yeah, but I saw him Friday. He's just walking across the quad. He's definitely going somewhere and I'm like, hey. You know, it's like, it's Nachos. I'm like, hey. And he's like, yo. I can't remember what he said, but it was just very calm. Like the person, whoever Nacho was, that person responded, not Nacho. And I'm just like, dang, he's just not on right now. He's like saving his energy. But it was just so weird because it's like Nacho. And he was just like, no, I am all like he's got like an. [00:21:13] Speaker B: Off and an on switch. [00:21:14] Speaker D: Yeah, his off switch was slick right off. But back to you know so I summed Chattanooga that I didn't see him again until they showed on the TV a little bit before the Auburn game. [00:21:26] Speaker B: Yeah, he's doing something with Aubby out there, right? [00:21:28] Speaker F: Yeah. [00:21:28] Speaker D: Did you guys see Aubie wearing that like, gold outfit on the TV? What was that? [00:21:33] Speaker F: I'm not sure. [00:21:35] Speaker D: We couldn't tell. [00:21:38] Speaker B: Well, you know what I could tell? I could tell that Milroe dotted up all bond. Bond. [00:21:46] Speaker D: Isaiah Bond. [00:21:49] Speaker F: Seven. [00:21:49] Speaker B: Fourth and 31. [00:21:51] Speaker F: Fourth and 30. [00:21:52] Speaker D: You haven't beaten Alabama till that clock says zero. [00:21:54] Speaker F: That's all I'm saying. Yeah, I mean, I basically know him, Aki. I saw him for a passing second yesterday. [00:22:01] Speaker D: I basically know because you're best friends with the Zeban and I'm best friends with Milro. Together we're the 431. [00:22:09] Speaker F: That's true. We are the gravedigger. [00:22:12] Speaker D: Which reminds me because everyone's talking about that touchdown, but not a lot of people talk about the touchdown. Got called back. [00:22:19] Speaker F: The pick six was stolen from us. It was a big Vegas plot to try and prevent us from covering the spread. I guarantee those refs were put us. [00:22:28] Speaker D: Above at the 31.5. That was the number. I know someone in my class was like, I wish we had lost because he said he lost $200 because we won. But he didn't get the points right. [00:22:41] Speaker B: Oh, no. [00:22:41] Speaker D: So the last second but they just needed to end that game to be real. People were going to die. Like when the whole brawl happened, they just didn't do anything because they knew if this game goes on any longer, oh, wait. We know who we're not talking about. We talked about bond. We talked about Milro. Riker tied the points record. [00:23:02] Speaker F: Will riker did? Yeah, the SEC. He's going to break one field goal. [00:23:06] Speaker B: If he made that one field goal. [00:23:08] Speaker F: Oh, my goal. [00:23:09] Speaker D: No, but it would have been so unceremonious because now we're going to this game because Georgia because Georgia, they might hold us to a field goal at least once. We're going to hang 100. But if we get held to one field goal, that's all right. [00:23:28] Speaker B: Points for a boy. [00:23:29] Speaker D: Are we ready for willie rycard? [00:23:32] Speaker F: We're ready for saturday. We are fully prepared. [00:23:35] Speaker B: Tune up game against auburn and now we're. [00:23:41] Speaker D: I hate away game. Iron bull real. That stadium's so cursed. [00:23:45] Speaker B: It's brutal. [00:23:47] Speaker F: It is brutal out here. [00:23:48] Speaker B: But I was watching it with my grandfather. He was an auburn fan so it was amazing. [00:23:54] Speaker D: Please, you tell me how that moment went. [00:23:55] Speaker B: He was being such a jerk the whole time. And I was like on my knees praying on the fourth and 31. I'm like, it might be impossible, but I believe. And then it happened and I lost my mind. My whole family was going nuts. [00:24:11] Speaker D: And he was just sitting there like. [00:24:13] Speaker B: Well. [00:24:18] Speaker D: I watched me and my girlfriend, we watched so many TikToks of auburn fan reactions and bama fan reactions not from the stadium because they showed those girls crying and that was kind of the same. But the people watching at home, those videos are fun because a lot of. [00:24:32] Speaker B: You guys yelling and screaming like I. [00:24:33] Speaker F: Was oh, yeah, 100%. [00:24:35] Speaker B: Because who's going to the videos? [00:24:37] Speaker D: I've been seeing it's a lot of alabama people, which means there's auburn and bama people watching the game at the same time. There's one really good one. It's a whole big extended family of people wearing alabama gear, right. And that happens and they go nuts. And then it pans to the one auburn fan and this giant family of bama fans because at first you think it's just a bama family watching the game and then they move the camera to the one auburn guy. Oh, man. Just like there's just so much everyone there's so much great content. I'm glad people sometimes you live moments through the eyes. But sometimes I'm glad some people live a moment through screens, get moments like true indeed. [00:25:19] Speaker B: I really enjoyed watching that with my auburn granddad. [00:25:22] Speaker F: Speaking of watching stuff, though, sorry about that, listeners. Have you all watched anything good this week? What's our weekly vlog? [00:25:32] Speaker B: Hang on, christian, we've been going on for like five minutes here. [00:25:35] Speaker D: We don't want to use up all of our segments. [00:25:37] Speaker B: We got to do one more. [00:25:39] Speaker F: Yeah, I know. I just thought of a good transition that'll come next segment, I guess. [00:25:43] Speaker B: Yes. Let that be a little teaser to you, but auburn, alabama, huge win. [00:25:48] Speaker F: You love to see it. One for the ages four than 31. We'll talk about it for at least another decade. [00:25:54] Speaker D: Iron Bull. [00:25:55] Speaker F: Iron Bull. [00:25:56] Speaker B: But we got you're not Ron, you're Andrew. Well, for now, we got some some music for you. So here's some radiohead. [00:26:10] Speaker A: W V uafm Tuscaloosa. [00:26:15] Speaker C: Um. [00:26:21] Speaker B: That'S Sadie on 90.7 the capstone. [00:26:23] Speaker D: And one of the songs on our playlist. [00:26:26] Speaker F: Yes, it is. [00:26:28] Speaker B: Well, fun fact, as we foreshadowed earlier, we are planning on doing a very special segment. Actually not that special. We do it, like, every time. It's the weekly watch. [00:26:37] Speaker D: Yes, your favorite segment. [00:26:39] Speaker F: What did we watch this week? [00:26:40] Speaker D: Yeah, I watched a whole lot during the Thanksgiving break because Thanksgiving, above all, is a time for celebrating Christmas. [00:26:50] Speaker F: Indeed. That's so true. [00:26:53] Speaker D: I was at home, spent most of Thanksgiving putting up Christmas decorations, watched some Christmas movies. All right? It's family tradition to watch how the Grinch stole Christmas after Thanksgiving dinner. [00:27:03] Speaker F: Yeah, we did that very nice. [00:27:05] Speaker D: We watched National Lampoon's Christmas vacation. Classic. And then one of my favorites, another literal classic, White Christmas. [00:27:15] Speaker F: Oh, I love white Christmas. [00:27:16] Speaker D: Great soundtrack. [00:27:17] Speaker F: La theatre la THEATA especially when it. [00:27:25] Speaker B: Comes get me out of here. [00:27:27] Speaker F: I love some white. [00:27:29] Speaker D: Yeah, it's a classic know, with all the and all that, kind of know. So we watched that. Oh, and of course, Polar Express. [00:27:38] Speaker B: The P Express classic. [00:27:39] Speaker D: The PX express. [00:27:41] Speaker F: The P express. [00:27:42] Speaker C: Wow. [00:27:42] Speaker B: With that, I'm gonna accept this Polar Express slander with some fantastic motion capture technology. Really groundbreaking. [00:27:50] Speaker D: It's a great movie. And the whole movie people don't believe what I say. The movie is just a Christmas carol. Need I explain? All right. I was going to say it either way. All right? [00:28:03] Speaker F: He's elaborating. He does a little elaborate. [00:28:05] Speaker D: So he's a kid. He's kind of a non believer kid. Right? [00:28:08] Speaker F: Yeah. [00:28:09] Speaker D: Right. And so he meets three ghosts, all right? The hobo and we know that they're ghosts because the hobo is a ghost, right? [00:28:15] Speaker B: Yeah. [00:28:16] Speaker D: And so the hobo is the Ghost of Christmas Past. He's this has been he's old. The conductor is the Ghost of Christmas Present. He's always trying to be on time in the moment. Right? And then Santa's the Ghost of Christmas Future. Right. And if that's not enough for you, he meets the scrooge puppet held by the ghost. And Scrooge Lou says, you're just like me, a scrooge. And then by the time he finishes his journey, it's Christmas morning, and he's a believer again. [00:28:42] Speaker B: It's not quite as good, because it's like belief in Santa is like the lesson, and belief in Santa isn't real. Whereas in A Christmas Carol, it's like, be a good person. Yeah, but it's a kids movie. Who cares? So, Christian, what did you watch this week? [00:29:03] Speaker F: I watched a very nice movie. It was a great success. My wife. That's right. I watched Borat Two with my roommates, Misha and Noah. Y'all might remember Noah from the morning show last year. [00:29:17] Speaker B: Anyway, your roommate? [00:29:19] Speaker F: Yeah, former co host. Anyway, we watched the new Borat. I mean, it was good. It's, like, two or three years ago. [00:29:27] Speaker D: Yeah, I feel like it came out a second ago. [00:29:29] Speaker F: Borat subsequent movie film delivery of prodigious bribe to make American regime for make benefit one's glorious nation of Kazakhstan. [00:29:41] Speaker B: That's good. [00:29:42] Speaker F: That's the official name. Anyway, it was phenomenal stuff. Great. Hilarious, I thought. [00:29:46] Speaker D: What did you enjoy? [00:29:48] Speaker B: I went to the theater. [00:29:51] Speaker F: The theater? [00:29:53] Speaker D: Not that theater. [00:29:54] Speaker B: I went to the movie theater to watch a new movie. I thought it would be pretty good. It wasn't. I went to go see Napoleon. Now, let me tell you about Napoleon. All right? Oh, boy. So, what do you think when you think Napoleon Waterloo? Okay, maybe I should ask someone else. But the general idea is no, I. [00:30:22] Speaker F: Think of, like, that movie Waterloo from the 70s. [00:30:26] Speaker D: Okay, man. Nick Hodgers. [00:30:27] Speaker B: Just forget it now. [00:30:28] Speaker E: Okay. [00:30:28] Speaker F: So Napoleon, the Russian movie. It's some good stuff. That's how I envision him. [00:30:32] Speaker B: Well, Napoleon is, like he's a general. He's known for his brilliant tactics. He won so much. He had this amazingly inflated ego about himself that eventually overcame him and brought him to a point of hubris where he ended up losing everything at the very end. And he did it. And he lost at the very end. Twice, actually, in two fantastic battles. Waterloo. And there was another one, but I forgot what name it was. [00:31:03] Speaker F: Well, there was also Russia. [00:31:06] Speaker D: Everyone has their Russia moment. [00:31:08] Speaker B: Yeah, the Russia moment was big. Anyway, the movie Napoleon does not care about any of that at all. There's, like, three action scenes and they're mid. And you know, Ridley Scott, he's known for having good historical action scenes. Have you seen the opening, the Gladiator? It's incredible. But these action scenes, they just weren't that know a lot of CGI and not good CGI at that. And really weird color grading. It looked ugly, sad. And Napoleon instead, decides to focus on, like, personal life. But instead of making him like a human being they turn him into a weird, gremlin, goblin type man. It's just not good. You can't relate to him. And his whole relationship with Josephine is just so strange. [00:31:57] Speaker F: What's the deal with making Josephine younger than, like, half of Joaquin Phoenix's age when she was really six years older than Napoleon? That's so it just it's like they. [00:32:09] Speaker D: Took the Joker but made him worse. Because now he's French. [00:32:11] Speaker B: Yeah. He's like, I know French joker. And it's like, with zero character development. He's just Joker mode the whole time. [00:32:18] Speaker F: The whole time. [00:32:19] Speaker D: He doesn't talk european society. [00:32:23] Speaker F: European. [00:32:24] Speaker B: Funny thing is, Napoleon has, like, an American accent. Everybody else has a British accent except for the Russian tsar, who has a French accent. It doesn't make any sense. [00:32:38] Speaker F: Does that make? [00:32:39] Speaker B: They say guillotine. That's not how it pronounced. No way. They said guillotine. [00:32:45] Speaker F: Seven year old me or something. [00:32:47] Speaker D: That's the moment. [00:32:48] Speaker F: Like, speak English. [00:32:49] Speaker D: That. [00:32:49] Speaker B: Happened, like, five minutes into the movie. [00:32:50] Speaker D: Is that your Joker moment, new? Is that your Joker moment? [00:32:53] Speaker B: This is not going to be a good one. [00:32:56] Speaker D: Bad day. All right. Well, that actually reminds me, I actually need to go invade and now that the winter is coming, I'm actually off to go invade Russia. Andrew howdy. Signing off. I'm going to go invade the Russian feral hog territories. [00:33:15] Speaker B: Well, don't get frozen. [00:33:18] Speaker F: Yeah. [00:33:19] Speaker B: All right. [00:33:19] Speaker F: I have half your army. Freeze. [00:33:21] Speaker B: Yeah. Napoleon, when he went into Russia, it was the largest land invasion, I think. Yeah. Get that, andrew. When Napoleon invaded Russia. [00:33:31] Speaker F: Stay warm in Russia. [00:33:33] Speaker B: It was the largest that shouldn't be a problem. It was the largest land invasion, I think, of all time up to that point. I'm not 100% sure. The grand AME, it was 600,000 men. When he left Russia, there were only 100,000 men left. [00:33:49] Speaker F: Yeah. Five out of six men. [00:33:51] Speaker B: Crazy. [00:33:52] Speaker F: Gone. [00:33:53] Speaker B: Brutal. [00:33:53] Speaker F: Indeed is brutal. [00:33:55] Speaker B: What is it with, like, invasions of Russia being the largest land invasions ever? Because Barbarosa took the title later on. [00:34:01] Speaker F: Yeah, it did. Well, I guess because it's a very big place. A lot of people yeah. [00:34:04] Speaker B: You need a lot to get through it. [00:34:06] Speaker F: And you still don't actually successfully seem to ever do it. [00:34:09] Speaker B: No, it's never going to happen. Well, you never know. [00:34:13] Speaker F: Unfortunately, Napoleon, Andrew, might be the first successful one. [00:34:16] Speaker B: You never know. You never know. Unfortunately, Napoleon wasn't that good of a movie. But we have lots of very good music coming up for you on the morning show. Here comes the Brower Sisters with Mess you up in just a moment. [00:34:40] Speaker A: WVUA FM tuscaloosa. [00:34:52] Speaker B: I love even flow. [00:34:53] Speaker F: I love even flow. But do you know what I love even more? Our favorite holiday on this show, Weezer Wednesday. Now, today in Weezer history. In 2001, Weezer played a show in St. Charles, Missouri at the family arena as part of the extended midget tour. The open acts were Jimmy Eat World and Tenacious D Now and Carl's Corner. And if you don't know what Carl's Corner is, it was the name of the section, the official Weezer fan club magazine, Weezine, where he answered questions. He talked about the show and said today's show was going fine until Weezer was returning the stage from the encore. But somehow, in the backstage darkness, brian took a bad step and tumbled clear off the ramp. After an extra long wait for the encore, the guys got back in the groove. Brian reports a bruised hip and storage, but was able to finish the set without too much difficulty. After the show, he iced up his hand to prevent any swelling. [00:35:51] Speaker B: Wow. [00:35:52] Speaker F: It just goes to show that the road don't take no guff. As Tenacious D says, shout out to Tenacious D. Now, so when he played. [00:35:59] Speaker B: That encore, what song did he play? That's the question. [00:36:02] Speaker F: Well, he played Buddy Holly, but the second of the two encore songs was Surflax America. So, without further ado, here's surf Lax America. [00:36:29] Speaker B: On 90.7 the Capstone. Man, I love that song. [00:36:33] Speaker F: I do, too. You know, but speaking of music, Richard, you know, I don't know what you're up to this week, but I'm up to something very fun involving music. [00:36:44] Speaker B: Really? [00:36:45] Speaker F: Yeah. This is a fun little event for our event of the week. People can attend. I don't know. I talked about it last year. So our dear listeners, our loyal listeners may remember Greater Giving. I'm doing stage Crew this year. It's a variety show that Alpha style mega Theater Honor Study puts on every year to raise money for philanthropy for Five Horizons, formerly West Alabama. AIDS Outreach. Tickets are $15. So that is an event going on on campus. It's always good to let people know about things going on on campus, things they can attend and yeah, we'll try and get that on the event calendar if we can. So there's something going on this week. [00:37:31] Speaker B: All right, Chris, we're looking for something. [00:37:32] Speaker F: To do this weekend. [00:37:33] Speaker B: That's good to hear. [00:37:34] Speaker F: Let's see. And in other things to do, university Programs is doing a watch party for the game. [00:37:46] Speaker B: Oh, yeah, that's right. [00:37:46] Speaker F: On the big game Saturday. Big. CNC championship big game. [00:37:51] Speaker B: Make sure you watch that. You can't miss that. [00:37:53] Speaker F: Can't miss that. And then there is also Friday night from seven to nine. Also FY 730 in the Marion Galloway theaters when Grander giving will be $15. All money goes to charity, apparently. There's also a Beyonce trivia night going on Friday from seven to nine at the student Center Great Hall. And this Thursday in John England Hall, there's a murder mystery dinner at Crimson Cabaret. How fun. [00:38:21] Speaker B: Very, very cool. [00:38:22] Speaker F: Interesting days going. Interesting things going on in university programs and on campus in general. [00:38:29] Speaker B: All right, well, thanks for keeping us up to date, Christian. It's been a good show this morning. We talked a lot about football, we talked a lot about everything going on around campus, and it's been a phenomenal. [00:38:42] Speaker F: But sadly, all good things must come to an end, Richard. [00:38:47] Speaker B: Yes. [00:38:47] Speaker F: Including the morning show. [00:38:49] Speaker B: Including the morning show. We're not canceling it. We're just coming off. [00:38:53] Speaker F: We're signing off for the day. So, dear listeners, like to tell y'all to stay gold pony boys and pony girls and pony non binary friends. [00:39:02] Speaker B: Thank you for listening. Here's some abba. [00:39:13] Speaker A: W-V-U-A-F-M tuscaloosa.
