[00:00:00] Speaker A: Wvuafm tuscaloosa.
[00:00:09] Speaker B: Round and round the earth goes, but there are three constants in life, death, taxes and the Wednesday morning show. That's right on 90.7, WVUA FM. I'm back here. I'm Christian Martin in the studio. My co host is running a little late today. You'll have to forgive apologies for being out last week. I had a fever. But, you know, we're back. We're happy to be on air and we're coming to you with some lovely music and some lovely vibes. Now, y'all, it is just a lovely day out there today. I think all our listeners will agree. And if you have any opinions on the weather, you can call in or just anything in general. It's 205-348-9070 but I think it was, it's a beautiful day out when I was walking here, a little cold. And so, speaking about weather, I think it's time for a little segment everyone knows and loves. That's right.
It's time for the.
[00:01:14] Speaker C: Weather report. Weather report. Weather report. Weather report. Weather report. Weather report. Weather report. Weather report. Do not skip the weather report. Weather report. Weather report. Weather report. Weather report. Weather report. Weather report.
[00:01:32] Speaker B: That's your. Is currently the sun and 45 degrees. So please put on your jacket. We got a high 63.
[00:02:05] Speaker A: Weather, repeat. Weather.
[00:02:06] Speaker B: Repeat.
[00:02:07] Speaker C: Weather, repeat.
[00:02:10] Speaker B: That's right. But, you know, whether the weather's good or bad, we've always got something to make you glad on 90.7, the capstone.
And this is lovely. This is a lovely little news article.
This is from a fellow named Andy Corbley. It's about a city in Utah, Clearfield, Utah, a Utah resident for her classroom civics. An eleven year old specifically named Racily Olson in Clearfield city, Utah, had a civics classroom lesson where she just drew a playground.
And because she had a dream about how to make a better playground, she made a little sketch and she, and I quote, or to quote, Clearfield city or Clarefield county officials, Roselie realized the playground by her house was suited for ages five to twelve and was not geared towards her younger sister, I guess was 34 something. And so she drew a better playground that younger kids can play on. And you know what?
The city built it and the county built it. And I just think that's lovely seeing, you know, government really listened to the most important constituents, eleven year olds also. I think it's just really sweet. And so there's a good news article for the day, something to give you with a little hope.
But, you know, there's always more. And and as an and and is going to be up next by Ethan Beck and of his album Duck Hollow.
[00:03:51] Speaker A: Wvuafm tuscaloosa.
[00:04:00] Speaker B: That was sound of silver by LCD Sound system on 90.7. WVUA FM, the Capstones Wednesday morning show. I'm Christian Martin here with you on this beautiful day.
Now, you know, we here at the Wednesday morning show have a nice old saying that every day is a day worth celebrating. And so we're going to celebrate the day here.
Now, the holidays today include global cat days. So if you have a cat, give it a pet. If you see a cat.
If you have a cat, give it a pet. If you see a cat, give it a pet.
Be nice to a cat, though, today as it is their big special day.
What's another word for a cat? Let's see. Oh, feline. You know what? I looked it up in my dictionary. That's right. It's dictionary day alongside National Feral Cat Day and Global Cat Day and National take your parents to lunch day. So if you live in town or your parents are close and you can try and have lunch with them today, or if not, try and swing dinner. Maybe it'll be nice.
So a lot of nice. And it's also just world food day. Eat some good food today. Pet a cat.
Eat some good food. Maybe with your parents. Heck, if you can't swing doing it in person, see if they want to do a little facetime or a zoom call over lunch. But try and eat lunch with your parents if you can. Eat some good food.
Pet a cat. It's a lot of good days. Read a dictionary. Expand your vocabulary. They're lovely days today. And today is really worth celebrating.
I also think that there's another major holiday that we on the Wednesday morning show like to call Weezer Wednesday. That's right, it's Weezer Wednesday, your favorite day of the year.
And today we have some fun Weezer facts.
So from our dear friends at Weezerpedia. That's right, today in Weezer history, some big stuff happened today. Weezer opened for live in Minneapolis at First Avenue in the year 1994. So that is 30 years ago today. And ten years ago today, Weezer performed at the Arizona State Fair and they played the british recovery in anonymous live for the first time. That's so cool.
I think.
Do we have them? Looks like we don't have those songs, sadly, though. But you know what, kids? We do have something from California. That's right. This is California kids by Weezer on Weezer Wednesday.
[00:07:12] Speaker A: Wvuafm tuscaloosa.
[00:07:22] Speaker B: Why mate, that was blotty lush, wasn't it? Yes, it was. Anyway, on the Wednesday morning show, that was actually lush. But I just want to do a fun little british accent for y'all.
You know, that was some lovely music listening to. We were listening to. But you know, there are senses other than your listening. That's right. You can watch things. And it's time for my musical theater watch of the week. Well, I'm happy to report that I have been listening to the wicked soundtrack. Very good. In anticipation from the movie. I saw the trailer just last night and I got very excited b we we got coming up here. Actually this week it's going on. I will be attending probably tonight, either tonight or Friday.
You're a good man, Charlie Brown. Charlie Brown. You're the kind of reminder we need. That's right. You're a good man. Charlie Brown is being put on by the University of Alabama's theater and dance department. Should be a lot of fun. I think it's 7730, I want to say 737 or 730 in the Allen Bales for the rest of the week. And then there should also be a Sunday matinee. And I am thoroughly excited.
Anyone else wants to go? That's a big thing going on on campus right now. I'm really excited. I can't wait to see Beethoven Day and all those good songs. A fun little christian lore pieces. I actually played Linus Van Pelt in my high school. Shout out to Tuscany County High School theater department.
I played Linus Van Pelt in their production of your good man, Charlie Brown my senior year of high school. And it was a rollicking good time. It's a lovely show. It's real cute. It's real sweet.
It should be a good time. So I'll be going to that and I'm really excited.
See musical theater. Do we have any musical theater songs?
I don't know if we do.
We do not have any musical theater songs that I can think of, sadly. But in celebration of, in celebration of whatchamacaller of Ariana Grande being in Wicked, I thought I'd play a little Ariana Grande. So here is problem by Ariana Grande featuring Iggy Azalea Onani seven Wvuafm. The Capstone.
[00:10:10] Speaker A: WVUAFM Tuscaloosa.
[00:10:20] Speaker B: That was bloody tongue on 90.7 WV AFM's the morning show. I'm Christian Martin. How are you lovely people doing today? Well, you know, a lovely segment we do around here is weekly watch. First off, for my weekly watch, I have to say I saw this new Transformers film, Transformers one. And I gotta say, great voice cast. And it was a good movie. I enjoyed it, especially for a cartoon. It was more than meets the eye.
But second off, I watched crapshoot of a football game Saturdays. I'm sure y'all are. This leads into Big Al watch.
I did see Big Al. He was doing his flips. He was doing his little dances on the sideline. It was beautiful. It was lovely. It was one of the best parts of that game.
You know, I didn't see him personally, but he was on the sideline. He was having a good time. It was nice. So, big Al watch. We've seen Big Al, but that game, y'all, crapshoot.
We gotta get it together. Especially, you know, I'm no football analyst and I'm not a part of our student section, but I am a person that watches ball. I like to think of myself as a ball knower.
And I gotta say, our defensive. Our defensive adjustments were lacking. Our defensive coordinator was lacking. I think we just need to learn how to do a QB spy and it really improve our game.
That was kind of saddening this weekend, but we did win. So there's that.
What are you gonna do? But, you know, time marches on. We won. Roll tide. I saw big Al alongside big Al. You know, we have another friend we like to watch out for. The gopher.
We have not seen the. I haven't seen the gopher. But, you know, if. Danielle, you're listening. You know, we have a number for Danielle to go for the call or any other listener, I guess if you want. And you're not Danielle. But we'd prefer Danielle. But really, anyone can call 205-348-9070 that's 205-348-9070 if you have a request for a song or anything else, please call in. We love collars. I know. I love collars especially.
So feel free to dial our number. Heck, if you want to talk about the game, do that. Just call in. Come on down.
That's 205-348-9070 the number for the Wednesday morning show.
Anyway, with that being said, here's art.
[00:13:03] Speaker A: History by perennial 90.7 Wafmousen wvuafm Tuscaloosa.
[00:13:23] Speaker B: Well, time sure does fly away on the Wednesday morning show. That's right, it's already 930. Can y'all believe that?
But I'm coming here to. Yes, Christian Martin, your dear host.
A little early, guys. Sorry about that, y'all. Anyway, but I'm coming to you with all the lovely tunes you like.
Shoot, I actually can't do this segment. I don't have my phone on me anyway. But you know what was, sorry, train of thought, got lost having to do this myself today. But, you know, it's always just lovely being on the air. And I think our listeners, I think, quite frankly, WVUA FM has some of the smartest, if not the smartest listeners out of any radio station in this country.
And, you know, little PSA if you want to, if you're smart, if you're trying to, if you're smart and civically inclined and feel like doing it, I believe voter registration ends the 21st. So this is the last Wednesday morning show beforehand. So it's me telling y'all, if you're so inclined and you want to register to vote, go online.
I believe the Alabama secretary of state's website has it. That's my little PSA for the day. If you want to know how to register to vote, that's how.
So, yeah, I fear so inclined. Then do it. I did it recently, and by that I mean I like did it like two years ago, but relatively recently, it was easy peasy, lemon squeezy and super fun, fresh and funky. And, you know, if you go do it and then you do vote, you get a little sticker. I like stickers. Speaking of stickers and, like decorations, pumpkin decorating. Did y'all know every year the office, student media has a pumpkin decorating contest? That's right. And I believe WVIFM has won three years in a row now. And we're looking for a fourth, a four. Pete, we're a dynasty. The best dynasty there's ever been. We're better than the Bulls in the nineties. The Bulls didn't win four in a row. And I think we're going to so, you know, be on the lookout in the coming days and weeks for a spooky pumpkin contest from the office of Student Mediaev.
And I'll play something spooky for y'all now, in celebration of the pumpkin carving contest, here's Dracula by Rod Zombie.
[00:16:13] Speaker A: Wvuafm Tuscaloosa.
[00:16:23] Speaker B: That was learning how to walk by the wheelers on the Wednesday morning show. I'm your host, Christian Martin, here.
Now, you know, it's sure been an interesting transition this week, temperature wise. And for more, here's the morning.
[00:16:48] Speaker C: Weather report. Weather report. Weather report. Weather report. Weather report.
[00:16:54] Speaker A: Weather report.
[00:16:54] Speaker C: Weather report. Weather report. Weather report. Do not disturb.
Weather report. Weather report. Weather report.
[00:17:07] Speaker B: Now it's 52 degrees and sunny. We got a high 60 degree along with absolutely no rain.
But whether the weather's good or bad, we've always got something to make you glad on the Wednesday morning show.
And here's some fun news out of the some good news out of the place. We get all our news and views. That's right, the Crimson White.
This is by Benjamin Smith, contributing writer. This is some good news about stuff that's been going on on campus. The Hispanic and Latino association, aka the HLA, hosted La Gaza dera last week in celebration of Hispanic Heritage Month.
It had dancing, reggaeton music, authentic food, soccer and collaborating club tables from Los Estudiantes de Alabama, Sin Fronteras, la Esculita de Ingles, the queer Student association, the Caribbean Students association and more.
So lovely stuff. There was latin music playing and a performance from local hispanic dance group Los Flores del sor folko.
And there was free food catered by our local business. Antajitos is Cali.
So that's some lovely stuff. And you could play Lotoria, which I don't know if y'all have ever played. It's a fun mexican card game. And so that sounds like it was just a rip roaring event. I mean, I went by there for a little bit and I had a good time. You know, I think everyone that I didn't stop and get food. I was just in a hurry, but I stopped to see what all the hubbub was about and it looked like a good time. It looked fun. I went last year and it was a great time and I'm sure it was great year. And that's some lovely writing about an event from our friends at the Crimson White.
You know, Hispanic Heritage Month is a big deal and it's a big holiday, and there are plenty of holidays. We've discussed some on air already. So Hispanic Heritage Month, I believe, still going on. So make sure to celebrate that.
But, you know, today's a big holiday because it's Weezer Wednesday. As Washington said, they played apocalypse for the first time ten years ago. I believe the song was called apocalypse. Sorry, I'm a little frazzled. But anyway, and here's some more weezer for you. This is endless Bummer.
I'll tell you what, it's not an endless summer as you saw in the weather report, but this is endless bummer by Weezer. So be weezer Wednesday on 90.7 WVU. AFM the Capstone.
[00:20:18] Speaker A: WVUA FM, tuscaloosa.
[00:20:28] Speaker B: Howdy. Howdy, y'all. I'm Christian Martin your host of the Wednesday morning show. Lovely to have y'all listening on 90.7, the capstone that was granddaddy with blue wave. Now, sadly, all good things must come to an end in life, and thus is the Wednesday morning show for this week. But tune in next week to hear a great show with my co host Thatcher back on and we'll hopefully have some fun segments for you with him. But thank you for listening. And now I bid you adieu, auf wiedersehen and goodbye. Now, in celebration of it being October, here's a fun little spooky song to bring y'all off. Here's run DMC with Ghostbusters on 90.7 WVUA FM. Have a lovely rest of your day and stay gold pony boys.
