[00:00:00] Speaker A: W v uafm. Tuscaloosa. [00:00:09] Speaker B: That'S Foster and the people on 90.7 the Capstone. It's the Morning Show. [00:00:14] Speaker C: Award winning winning Wednesday Morning Show. [00:00:16] Speaker B: Award winning we're back, baby. This is Richard Jenkins, and this is. [00:00:20] Speaker C: Christian Martin, your returning hosts. [00:00:22] Speaker B: And we have a new host for you today. Andrew, why don't you introduce yourself? [00:00:25] Speaker D: Well, I'm Andrew Howdige. I'm a freshman studying PR, and I'm so happy to be here. Awesome. [00:00:30] Speaker B: We'd love to have you here. [00:00:32] Speaker C: And for those who aren't returning listeners, I Christian Martin, am a sophomore studying history and theater. [00:00:38] Speaker B: And I Richard Jenkins, am a sophomore studying economics. And we are missing our dearly departed former host, Mr. Noah Haynes. Unfortunately, he has gone on to the realm of actual jobs and the radio, so good for him. [00:00:53] Speaker C: Indeed. He is my roommate, though. So if y'all want Noah Haynes updates, listeners, call in, put it on our Instagram, tell us. And I can give y'all Noah Haynes updates. [00:01:03] Speaker D: Happy to give you the Noah watts. [00:01:04] Speaker C: Indeed. [00:01:06] Speaker B: Well, we've got a great show lined up for you today, and we're happy to be back after a full summer of absence. Sorry we're a little late, but yeah, it's good to be here. It is all right here's. Day wave with past life. We'll catch you in a few minutes. [00:01:30] Speaker A: WVUA FM. Tuscaloosa. [00:01:40] Speaker B: Certainly. So with Golden State on 90.7. The capstone. It's the morning show. [00:01:44] Speaker C: Whoo. The Wednesday morning show. [00:01:46] Speaker B: Hey, Christian, do you know what time it is? [00:01:52] Speaker C: Is it what I think it is? Could it be the weather report, maybe? [00:01:57] Speaker B: The weather report? [00:01:59] Speaker E: Weather Report. Weather Report. Weather Report. Weather Report. Weather Report. Terms of news looking about average good. [00:02:34] Speaker B: Air quality, not a lot of rain be nice today. Tuscaloosa but another beautiful day. [00:02:45] Speaker E: Weather Report. Weather Report. Weather Report. Weather Report. Weather Report. Weather Report. Weather Report. Weather report. [00:02:55] Speaker B: All right, but whether the weather is good or bad, we've always got something to make you glad on The Morning Show. Here's Christian with our positive affirmation. [00:03:02] Speaker C: So today, you know, I know that pollen counts are really high today, speaking of weather and so I've made an affirmation for all my fellow allergy. Enjoyers, or should I say sufferers, today I'm going to slay my allergies. They shan't slay me. And also, whether any of y'all have allergies or don't, I'm canuff and y'all are, too. So always remember that. [00:03:29] Speaker B: Thank you, Christian. That was great. [00:03:31] Speaker D: I feel enough. [00:03:32] Speaker C: And you are. Canuff Andrew? And you are. [00:03:35] Speaker B: All right. So, guys, it's been a long time since we've been on the air. How's everyone's summer been? Andrew I'll go first. [00:03:43] Speaker D: I went to Europe for the first time, and I could talk about beautiful old buildings, local cuisine, people I met. No, I went to McDonald's and all the countries I went to portugal, Spain, France, England, Amsterdam, Germany, Italy. I went to McDonald's in each city I went in. And I didn't eat at all of them. But I made sure to get photos with all of them. And I'll tell you, some were bad, some were good, but what really set them apart was the fries. You had no idea what you were getting into at each place. The fries could be terrible. They could be great, and there was no way to knowing because they adjust them to the local palate. The English ones were terrible. They didn't have enough salt, no flavor. I know it's no surprise, but don't eat the fries. In England. The nuggets were okay, but don't eat the London fries. [00:04:31] Speaker B: So did any of them beat out, like, the American original version? [00:04:35] Speaker D: McDonald's is so good at just being the same thing that when you want McDonald's, rarely it's, oh, I want, like, you know, I need something know. And it's either a restaurant or a fast food place that's just some American place, so you could count on the money, and you knew what you're expecting. That's like McDonald's whole global thing. But I'll say some of the menus were better, some of the prices were better, and they had beer at McDonald's at several of know. I know that's the line from, like, Pulp Fiction, but, I mean, it's true. I didn't try it, but knowing it was there, it felt know, I felt interesting. [00:05:12] Speaker B: Get the royale with cheese. [00:05:14] Speaker D: Oh, I did get the royale with cheese. I got it in France. I filmed a TikTok of me doing Know. I don't even like to do TikToks. I'm like, oh, no, the people need to see this. I have my royale with keys. [00:05:26] Speaker B: That sounds well worth it. Christian, how was your summer? [00:05:29] Speaker C: It was great. It was great. So I mostly just stayed in town, but I had a really good time. It was very relaxing. I also took a really interesting class for blunt. It was this geology research course, and I researched isotope, like oxygen isotope, numbers in the marsh, Perry Winklin attention, because it was the first time anyone's ever really done that that we know of. So that was cool to say. [00:05:51] Speaker B: I got to do groundbreaking scientist Christian Martin here. [00:05:54] Speaker C: And then also, I did some work at nights acting in a playwright festival on campus. There were a lot of really interesting plays we did stage reads of, and it was a lot of fun. So, yeah, I had a pretty good summer. [00:06:05] Speaker B: All right. [00:06:06] Speaker C: What about you, Richard? I heard you went on some know, some minor travels. [00:06:10] Speaker B: The original plan was to go drive around the country and go to a bunch of different national parks, but that kind of fell through because we figured out none of us had a car. So instead, what we did was we flew out to San Francisco, and we caught a Grateful Dead show. It was their last show ever, actually. So that was very cool. And then on the flight back, we had a layover in Vegas. And it was like during that one week in the middle of summer, where it was like 115 degrees in Vegas, and then our flight got canceled, so we were stuck in Vegas for 48 hours in 115 degree heat. And we're all 20, so we can't do anything in Vegas. We can't even rent a hotel room for the night. So we're, like, sleeping in the airport. It's roasting outside. Just not the best time. But we made some fun out of it. [00:06:56] Speaker C: Yeah, it's so crazy how you can buy a plane ticket and fly by yourself to a destination, but then can't stay the night in that destination. [00:07:06] Speaker B: Yeah, it was not the best, but, hey, the Dead show was great. It was super fun. So there's a positive right there. [00:07:14] Speaker C: Yeah. No. Glad to hear the Deadheads of North Carolina are doing well, seeing them in San Fran. [00:07:20] Speaker B: Yes, sir. It was great. All right, that's all we have for right now. So here's Hannah Cole with Nuisance. [00:07:30] Speaker C: Gather. [00:07:34] Speaker A: W v uafm tuscaloosa. [00:07:44] Speaker C: That was Mama with Rockstar on 90.7 w vofm the Capstone, though. Wednesday morning show now award winning. [00:07:52] Speaker B: Yes, sir. Happy Wednesday, everybody. Hey, do you guys know what other day it happens to be today? [00:07:58] Speaker C: I don't know. Let's ask Andrew. [00:08:00] Speaker B: Do you know what day it is? [00:08:06] Speaker D: National Chocolate Milk Day. [00:08:08] Speaker C: No. Well, it is, but no, that's not the answer. [00:08:11] Speaker D: Do you have any other guesses or forgiveness day? I think I read that. No. [00:08:17] Speaker B: Well, Christian, I think you know what day it is. [00:08:20] Speaker C: I do. It's weezer Wednesday, 90.7 wvfm the capstone. [00:08:26] Speaker B: We have some very interesting Weezer factoise for you today. Looked up on the beautiful Weezerpedia. Christian, have you ever heard of the Weezer NFTs? [00:08:36] Speaker D: What? [00:08:36] Speaker C: I have, yeah. I don't know why they made them, though. Could you tell me why weezer NFTs. [00:08:43] Speaker B: Well, Weezer released a bunch of NFTs to promote one of their new albums, okay. Human, which happened to be their environmentally conscious album, which is a little ironic. [00:08:52] Speaker C: A little ironic. Alana's Morissette would really like that, I think. [00:08:55] Speaker B: Yeah, I think they ended up pocketing, like, 250 grand off that. And if you bought a Weezer NFT, congratulations. It is now worthless. [00:09:05] Speaker D: Is that real? [00:09:06] Speaker B: Oh, yeah. [00:09:07] Speaker C: No, 100% wi never lies. [00:09:09] Speaker D: Off the chain and off the blockchain. Let's go. [00:09:13] Speaker C: All right, well, I'm sure an artist that would have sold NFTs if he was still alive and they would have been fire would be Buddy Holly. So here's Buddy Holly by Weezer on the Wednesday Morning Show. [00:09:31] Speaker A: WVUA FM tuscaloosa. [00:09:41] Speaker B: That'S feist with past and present on 90.7 the Capstone. It's the Morning show. [00:09:46] Speaker C: Whoo. Yay. [00:09:48] Speaker B: All right, so we have some news here today, Christian. [00:09:52] Speaker C: We do our crimson white news break. Maybe. We love the crimson white. It's where we get all our news and all our views. [00:10:00] Speaker B: All right, Andrew, you got a story for us today? [00:10:02] Speaker D: All right, well, one of the stories we got here real quick one is the Tide against suicide. Brought the puppies into the student center on Friday. And let me tell you, they were a big hit. But what really got my attention was parents weekend. That was fun to meet my roommate's parents and families and all that. But let me tell you, when the parents are here, the food's way better. I'm starting to learn that. [00:10:26] Speaker B: Oh, yeah, it's weird. [00:10:27] Speaker C: I was phenomenal. [00:10:29] Speaker B: It was so good yesterday. I was in Lakeside for 3 hours straight. I just kept going through and getting like tacos over and over again. It was just like the best tacos they've ever had. [00:10:39] Speaker D: Know in the pizza place, they're partnering with some with yeah, yeah. And they brought in there was this lady that was some representative. And she's like, try this pizza. Try this pizza. Try this pizza with new topping. So instead of like pepperoni, it was like slices of Italian sausage. And it tasted really good. And I saw some other ones I didn't try, but I was just like, man, if the pizza stays like this, then I'm getting it every day. I already get it every day. So who knows what will happen. Always hits, but it always hits an. [00:11:06] Speaker C: Improved version of it. That must be mind blowing. I hate I missed out on this. [00:11:11] Speaker B: Yeah, Christian, with your you don't have a meal plan. [00:11:14] Speaker C: I don't know. I guess I'm going to hey, if Lakeside pizza is like this next semester, I'm going to have to get a meal plan. Going to have to invest. [00:11:21] Speaker B: Yeah, man. [00:11:22] Speaker D: Worth it. [00:11:24] Speaker C: Indeed. Well, that's all for this segment. So tune in next segment. We'll have one more segment before next hour. But next hour, we got a real nice surprise for y'all here. [00:11:35] Speaker B: We got a few guests coming on. [00:11:37] Speaker C: Yeah, we might just have a few guests. We might celebrate our day. Just be on the lookout. Thanks for listening. [00:11:50] Speaker A: WVUA FM tuscaloosa. [00:11:59] Speaker B: That's Lincoln Park with lost on 90.7 the capstone. It's the morning show. [00:12:06] Speaker C: We're so back. [00:12:08] Speaker B: We are so back, everybody. All right, we're talking about events going on around campus right now. So the career fairs today. That happens in about 1 hour. I think I'll be heading over there after this morning show. I'm all dressed up. [00:12:23] Speaker D: He is snazzy indeed. [00:12:26] Speaker C: Now, so you all make sure to go out to that. [00:12:29] Speaker B: I'm very excited because I'm wearing my buttoned up shirt, and my favorite thing to do is roll up the sleeves and unbutton the top know, for all the ladies out, know, looking nice and spiffy. [00:12:39] Speaker D: Love a little bit of forearm. [00:12:41] Speaker B: Yeah, that's what I'm talking about. Well, what's been going on with you guys this week? [00:12:45] Speaker C: Well, Sunday night me and some friends went out to Applebee's. It was the last night they had those boneless wings. So we did a challenge of who could eat the most rounds of wings. Now I lost. I didn't win. Didn't come in last, at least. But the winner was my friend Cameron. With four rounds, I only got up to three, so kind of sad. But it was still a good time, and I still ate my money's worth in boneless wings. [00:13:09] Speaker B: There you go. Good to hear. All right, any more events coming on around campus, honestly? [00:13:16] Speaker C: Well, let's see. Well, there should be the student center watch party for the Mississippi State game, as course. [00:13:27] Speaker B: Of course. [00:13:27] Speaker C: I believe that'll be in the student center. [00:13:30] Speaker B: Yeah. [00:13:31] Speaker C: Saturday. [00:13:31] Speaker B: What about Lazadera. Right? That happened recently. [00:13:34] Speaker C: Oh, yeah, that was interesting. Well, that already happened. Yeah, of course. This is just a fun story. I went out I don't know if y'all went out, but it's HLA's, like yearly thing to kick off Hispanic Heritage Month. It was a really good were they had shoot, what's the name of that ice cream joint? They had the ice cream joint from Northport come out. They had Anahitos come out and cater it. So there was free food. There was a DJ. Big Al was there. It was a good time. Now, Andrew, you were telling us you actually met the Large Albert himself there. [00:14:07] Speaker D: I was there. Now, I'm Big Al's biggest fan, and I'm not afraid to say it know, I used to be a mascot back in high school. I know how hard it is. And I'm like, I see him and I'm like, that's Big Al. That's him. Right? And I feel represented because he's our mascot. And let me tell you roll it back. Before Big Al got there, no one expected him to be there. At least I didn't. So I just finished a five K with Run Uway, and I finished at the student center, and I see the event going on. I'm like, oh, that's the Hispanic thing. I didn't really know much about HLA or any of that. And so I'm exhausted. I go, There free food. All right? I'll eat. I was parched. They didn't have any drinks, so that was oh, no, they had Paulettas, at. [00:14:51] Speaker C: Least, though they did. [00:14:51] Speaker D: Oh, the food was fantastic. I just wish I had a water or something. And so I'm dehydrated I'm exhausted, and I'm dancing. I'm kind of listening to the music. I'm not really moving too much because I'm exhausted. Big Al shows up and he starts dancing. So of course I start dancing with Big Al. Who cares if I haven't had any water in a day? Like it's big, Al. [00:15:10] Speaker C: He dances. [00:15:10] Speaker D: What are you going to do? He starts a conga line, or at least people encourage him to start a conga line. Turns into a little march. Pretty good. And just everyone was having a great time with the Large Albert. [00:15:22] Speaker B: Get any good pictures with him? [00:15:23] Speaker D: Oh, I got a good picture. See, there was a little booth for taking photos, and you could get your little printed out photo strip. I kind of like tap Big l's shoulder. And I point to it and he sticks his arm, and I guide him to the photo booth. And I take photos with Big Al. And people photographers are taking pictures of me taking photos with Big Al. Apparently, it was a big deal. So I get my photos with him. I like, put a little crown on his head. I dress him up because learners, he can't reach the top of his own head. And then the person behind me in line got a photo of Big Al. And then he left. So of all the people there, only two of us got actual little photo shoots with Big Al. So I felt really lucky. [00:15:59] Speaker B: Congratulations. [00:15:59] Speaker C: Real rarity. [00:16:00] Speaker D: And it gets better than that because I was glad to have my photo come around. The next week, a newsletter comes out. It's one of the photos a photographer took of me and Big Al. So last week, I was the COVID of the weekly newsletter, me and Big Al, where we get all our crimson views on the crimson white. It was just whatever, whoever does it, I think it was the student life. [00:16:22] Speaker C: Okay, there are two news. We love student life. We love both of them. They're great components of our student media here. [00:16:29] Speaker D: Now, I love when people I know that people sometimes just click on the email and then click off so it gets read. But I pop up when you click on it. So even all the people who do that just to clear it, I'm getting my face out there. So I was pretty excited. My family told me my girlfriend was just like, Andrew, look at the newsletter. And I'm like, oh, that's So I. [00:16:54] Speaker B: Might have to get that picture up on the Instagram so even more people can see it. [00:16:58] Speaker D: Everyone needs to see this. Well, great event. [00:17:00] Speaker B: I might have to dispute that claim there. I think I am Big Al's number one fan. [00:17:04] Speaker C: I would argue I'm Big Al's number one. [00:17:06] Speaker B: No, I am. [00:17:08] Speaker D: On Mondays and Wednesdays, I draw pictures of Big Al in my CNIS 100 whiteboard. I drew him as Bob Ross last time. What did you draw Big Al as on Monday? [00:17:20] Speaker C: Look, one time I put a cowboy hat on him. Last year. I drew it. [00:17:24] Speaker D: I put a crown on him this year. [00:17:25] Speaker B: Well, I am always down at the front line at the football games, yelling and screaming. And when Big Al comes up, he's my guy. We're like hugging, we're slapping each other. And then the camera guy comes up and I get on the know I'm getting my face out there too. With know. [00:17:40] Speaker D: It's not about getting your face out there. It's know cuddling his big plush face. [00:17:44] Speaker B: That's true. That's true. I like, I was seeking out the fame. You just love Big Al. So maybe you might have just barely beaten me for big. [00:17:53] Speaker C: Maybe. But we know that the Wednesday morning show is a group of guys that are Big Al's number one fans. [00:17:58] Speaker D: We're Big Al's biggest support team. [00:18:01] Speaker C: No, name a team. Name a team that loves Big Al more than we can't. [00:18:05] Speaker D: You can't. Impossible. Don't even try. [00:18:08] Speaker C: Don't ever attempt it. [00:18:10] Speaker B: All right, well, we have some guests coming on at the next break. It's going to be very exciting. And I believe some of these guests were they sponsored the Lagaza. [00:18:20] Speaker C: Yeah, they have set it up, actually. That's exciting. [00:18:23] Speaker B: So, yeah, we'll have some members of the Sigma Alphamu fraternity coming in soon. So, yeah, everyone get excited. Here's. Pearl Jam. [00:18:39] Speaker A: WVUA FM tuscaloosa. [00:18:50] Speaker C: That was Pearl Jam here on 90.7 W V FM. The capstone. This is the Wednesday morning show now award winning. I'm Christian Martin, and we're here with a guest, pedro Reyes, vice prior of Sammy Sigma Alpha Mu, here to discuss the Sammy safe box in the Tuscaloosa safe center. So, Pedro, can you sort of get into what the Sammy safe box is and what it does? [00:19:14] Speaker F: Yeah, I started the Sammy SafeBox two years ago. I was named philanthropy chair of Sigma Alpha Mu, and I wanted to make sure that I put one, our fraternity on the map. So I reached out to the Tuscaloosa safe center, which is a 24/7 sexual assault crisis center that helps sexual assault victims move forward with their lives at no cost to them. And the first year, we reached out to all the Greek organizations, and we were able to get all 70 of them to sign on to do it. And that year, we raised $9,000 for the safe center, which allowed them to hire another full time nurse for the center. And last year, we surpassed that goal, and this year, we are excited to bring it back. And our goal this year is $30,000 to be able to be raised and given back to the safe center. [00:20:08] Speaker C: Nice how to do a lot of good work in the community. So for our listeners. So these are boxes, I believe, that are put out in front of things like Greek houses and academic buildings. Correct, correct. [00:20:23] Speaker F: Boxes will be placed in all the sorority and fraternity houses at the University of Alabama, as well as other locations throughout campus for donations. The list of what you can donate is on the side of each box and what is needed at the safe center. [00:20:42] Speaker C: Yeah. Well, y'all tune in to hear more next break. We're going to celebrate the day and also ask more about this with Pedro about some events surrounding the Sammy safe box going on this next month. So y'all stay tuned. Up next is Be Sweet by Japanese Breakfast on 90.7 W VUA FM. [00:21:06] Speaker A: WVUA FM tuscaloosa. [00:21:16] Speaker D: That was bienetrois with Topo. And here we are back to continue the interview. Why don't you take us away? [00:21:22] Speaker C: Right. Well, first off, we were discussing what day it is today in the right. [00:21:28] Speaker B: Oh, yes, yes, of course. [00:21:30] Speaker C: Now, Pedro, could you tell us? Well, actually, no. First off, we were also discussing drives. So along with the you know, there's some other interesting drives that happen on campus. [00:21:40] Speaker D: All right, well, I've heard Dixieland Delight, and I've heard the words that get spoken in between the lyrics, so I know that beating Auburn is very important to this school. So along with the other drives, beat Auburn, beat Hunger is something I've heard about a know food drive, a lot of canned food drive. And I think we need to have a can do attitude, because what day is it today? [00:22:02] Speaker C: It's national crush a can day, isn't it? [00:22:05] Speaker B: Oh, that's right, baby. We have a can right here, and we are about to crush it on air ASMR style. So I've got this can right here. I just drank all of the soda out of it, and now I will crush it for you. Thank you. [00:22:28] Speaker C: Excellent, Richard. Excellent. Now, speaking of the original drive, we're here with Pedro J. Reyes to discuss the Sammy safe box and everything they're doing. So along with the box, you were saying on break about some other stuff that's going on that y'all are doing. [00:22:47] Speaker F: Yes. We will also be having bingo nights throughout the month and some trivia nights at different locations throughout Tuscaloosa. [00:22:55] Speaker C: Okay. Are there any lined up specifically right now that we could maybe put on our events calendar, have people looking out for? [00:23:02] Speaker F: The first one will be on October 11 at World of Beer. That's a Wednesday, and it will start at 08:00 p.m.. [00:23:09] Speaker C: Okay, well, everyone be on the lookout for that. It'll be a real good time, so just yeah. You all be on the lookout for the Sammy safe boxes. I believe those will be out from the first or the second? [00:23:21] Speaker A: The first. [00:23:22] Speaker C: The first from October the first. So this Sunday through the 26 October. So I'll be on the lookout for those around campus and be on the lookout for events that are happening with it throughout the month. Thank you so much for coming on, Pedro. It's been a pleasure. [00:23:36] Speaker F: Thank you. [00:23:38] Speaker C: All right, well, up next, we have our legal ID. And then afterwards we have Change Your Mind by bully here on 90.7 WVUA FM the capstone. [00:23:54] Speaker A: WVUA FM Tuscaloosa.
